Ruth Carlstad (Peterson), passed away peacefully at the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie, Alberta on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 with her family by her side at the age of 83 years. She was born on the farm near Valhalla Center on June 10, 1930 to Valborg and Clarence Peterson. Ruth was the eldest of 9 children, she lived her entire life in the Valhalla and Hythe districts. She married Ordian Carlstad in 1951 and lived on the farm most of her life. Ruth was very good at craft work, sewing wedding dresses and making wedding cakes. She spent many hours and days looking after other people in her life and many days volunteering within the community. Ruth was predeceased by: parents Clarence and Valborg, husband Ordian Carlstad, granddaughter Kelly Mayer, brothers; Glenn, Lawrence and Lloyd Peterson, brothers-in-law; Stanley, Denis, Jenning, Alvin and Edgar Carlstad and Ronnie Dryer. She will be dearly missed by her family; daughter Carol (Carl) Mayer, their son Michael (Erin) Mayer and their children Ava, Isiah, Adalia and Lavinia, daughter Gloria (Joe) Sask, children Wade (Chantel) Sask and Karri (Gary) Fraser, brothers; Royce (Gladys), Gordon (Dorothy), and Kelly (Goldie) Peterson, sisters; Joyce (Tom) Tofteland, Arlene (Bob) Barry, sisters-in-law; Corinne, Margaret and Darlene Peterson, Ruth, Gloria, and Mildred Carlstad and Violet Dryer, along with extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to all the staff at the Hythe Pioneer Home and the care they provided for Mom. A Visitation was held on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Valhalla Lutheran Church, Valhalla, Alberta. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Valhalla Lutheran Church. Pastor Ella Loberg officiated. Interment immediately followed in the Valhalla Center Cemetery.
