Obituary of Don Everton

Don Everton, a resident of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on August 2, 2014, at the age of 86 years. Born near Hythe, Alberta on May 16, 1928, Don was the oldest of five children. He completed a course from the Radio College of Canada, sparking a lifelong interest in radios and electronics. Don spent his entire career working for Imperial Oil, travelling extensively in the Arctic and conducting studies and research. He spent several years in Dawson Creek, B.C., before being transferred to Calgary in 1964, where he lived for 50 years. Don was an avid HAM radio enthusiast and member of the Calgary Amateur Radio Association, and he collected and repaired antique radios. He also enjoyed photography and working on the family farm near Hythe. Don was a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He will be remembered by family and friends as being unfailingly cheerful and never in a hurry. Don was predeceased by his parents Ross and Retta Everton, his sister Joan Kirby, and his brother-in-law Lawrence Kirby. He will be greatly missed by his brother Bennie (Audrey) Everton of Hythe, Alberta; his sisters Betty (George) Wiens of Grande Prairie, Alberta, and Margaret (Herman) Stamp of Vernon, B.C.; numerous nephews and nieces and their families; and many other friends and relatives. A Memorial Service was held at Valhalla Lutheran Church in Valhalla Centre, Alberta on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Ella Loberg officiating. Interment followed in the Hythe Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Don to a charity of one’s choice.
