Obituary of Jim McArthur

Jim McArthur, a long time resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Beaverlodge with family by his side at the age of 85 years. Jim was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on April 24, 1929 to Tom and Myrtle McArthur, a brother for his two older sisters. The family moved to the Hinton Trail area when Jim was very young, and added another sister and brother while there. He took is early schooling in the area and while still a teenager, worked for a guiding outfit. In 1950, Jim married Jean Harding in Beaverlodge. His early work took him to a garage in Peace River where he started an apprenticeship for automotive mechanics, also going to Calgary for the classroom portion of the training. While in Peace River, their son Ed was born, and three years later, their daughter Debbie was born. Jim's next job was with Schlumberger and the family moved to Valleyview. Their next move was to Dawson Creek in 1959 where they lived until 1998 then relocated to Beaverlodge, and recently to the Hythe Pioneer Home. During his 28 years with Schlumberger he worked throughout Northern Alberta and BC, the Yukon, Northwest Territories, as well the Queen Charlotte Islands. His early guiding work was part of a lifelong joy of hunting and the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed the fall hunting season, spending many happy hours travelling the rivers on riverboat with friends. Later joining Ed and his family on many trips on the rivers near Fort Nelson hunting for moose and elk. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Jean, his son Ed (Bev), and his daughter Debbie (Garry), and their children and grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Beaverlodge United Church. Rev. Joan Kennedy officiated. A private family interment followed in the Halcourt Cemetery.
