The family of Knut Homme would like to sadly announce his passing on February 24, 2014 in Hythe, Alberta at the age of 82 years. Knut was a lifelong resident of Hythe. Knut Eivindson Homme was born on January 7, 1932 on the farm on Emerson Trail to Bergit and Eivind Homme. He was the middle child in a family of five and went to school in Glass Lake and Hythe. Knut farmed with his parents when he finished school and in the winter worked at a lumber mill. Knut was a natural athlete and excelled in any sport he tried. He played hockey for the Valhalla Vikings as a goalie and baseball for the Beaverlodge Royals as a pitcher. Besides farming, he worked 30 years for Canada Post as a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed his job and was always invited in for a coffee by his customers. He was well known in Hythe as the icemaker for the Curling Rink. He was a member of the Sons of Norway for 42 years, volunteering many hours and enjoyed participating in the various activities with the club around Alberta and Saskatchewan. Knut met Anna Hempler in Hythe and they were married for 40 years. They along with her son Perry moved onto the farm with Mrs. Homme. Knut always had a smile and a handshake for everyone he met, always willing to lend a helping hand. Knut was predeceased by his parents Eivind and Bergit Homme, his wife Anna, sisters-in-law Sue Homme and Florence Homme, brother-in-law Charles Baker and niece Cindy (nee Homme) Boudreau. Knut leaves to mourn his siblings; Olaf Homme, Gena (nee Homme) Baker, Edwin (Jane Shorter) Homme, and Astrid (Neil) Bell, along with his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service for Knut was held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Valhalla Centre Cemetery. Pastor Ella Loberg officiated. Reception followed at the Hythe Legion.
