Obituary of Garnet Dixon Hommy

Garnet Hommy, a long time resident of Hythe, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Beaverlodge, Alberta at the age of 93 years. Garnet was born on December 1, 1921 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. As good a life Garnet had, there were adversities. Including the loss of his parents, siblings, losing his first wife Elsie, son Darcy, and son-in-law Jim Reid. Hard work and perseverance, Elsie's thriftiness and accounting skills enabled them to have a great retirement; spending forty winters in sunny California and Arizona. Garnet was a cowboy at heart and he was happiest around horses, people, family, dancing and visiting. Life will go on, but there will certainly be a big hole in the family that will never be filled. Because we are so scattered across the country, Garnet was the glue that kept them all together. Sylvia was a great match for Garnet is his later years, her sense of humor, optimism, love of travel and she generally loved to be on the go, it was exactly what made Garnet happy. They had nineteen wonderful years together. Garnet is survived by his wife Sylvia, daughter Joan, daughter-in-law Gina, grandsons: Terry Reid, Scott (Wendy) Reid, Dwayne (Daylene) Hommy, Darrell (Cindy) Hommy, and Derek Hommy, as well as his sister Deanna Schweitzer (Art), sisters-in-law: Margaret Pfau Sterr, Mary Bain, and Lorraine Hommy, along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a couple childhood friends; Olaf Hegland and Ray Pollock. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Hythe Legion. Pastor Ella Loberg officiated. Interment followed in the Gimli Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Garnet to the Hythe Legion, Box 626 Hythe, AB T0H2C0. Very Respectfully Beaverlodge Funeral Service
