Obituary of George Dieter Henn

With profound sadness, the family of George Dieter Henn announces his peaceful passing on January 20, 2016 in Beaverlodge, Alberta at the age of 85 years. George was born in Breitenau, Germany on March 30, 1930 and immigrated to Canada in 1954 at the age of 24. He settled in Beaverlodge in 1956 and spent the remainder of his life there, raising a loving family and retiring in 1995. His main occupation was as a beekeeper, spending 23 years at the Beaverlodge Research Station and later running his own apiary. He also spent many winters cooking in various bush camps and keeping a small mixed farm. Later in life George was an avid artist whose creations came in the form of tapestries made on a weaving loom. George leaves to mourn his loving wife Marjorie (Hunkin), his siblings: Heiner, Richard, and Mechtilde who still reside in Germany, his children: Paul (Susan), Daniel (Stacey), Ian (Kelley), Barbara (Sean), and Hilary, stepdaughter Naomi (Carl), as well as his first wife Joan (Marsden). He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church. Rev. Wayne Putman officiated. Interment will be held in the spring in the Halcourt Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of George to the Beaverlodge Hospital Foundation, Box 480 Beaverlodge, AB T0H0C0, or to the Beaverlodge Cultural Centre, Box 569 Beaverlodge, AB T0H0C0.
