Obituary of Henry Thomas Allingham

Henry Allingham, a long time resident of the Beaverlodge area, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, July 22, 2013 in Beaverlodge, Alberta at the age of 92 years. Henry Thomas Allingham was born on Saturday, October 23, 1920 in Tonbridge, Kent, United Kingdom. Harry was a tap dancer, poet and philosopher extraordinaire. His life was a journey of adventures, having fought in World War II then immigrating to Canada in 1948 where he lived in Quebec, and then finally settled in the Peace Country. Harry pursued his passion for art and knowledge by attending Sir George William University in Montreal and becoming a curator of the Grande Prairie Art Gallery. He was also very passionate about his golf and played until he was 91. Harry is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Eileen. Their devotion and love for one another is the exceptional standard for which their family strives. He leaves to grieve his son, Lionel (Daniela) Allingham; daughter, Gloria (Jacques) Carle; 7 grandchildren and their spouses and 16 great-grandchildren. His family was his lasting legacy which he considered to be his greatest achievement. We wish him great adventures on his next journey. With respect to Harry's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. For friend's so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Harry to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #54, 9912 101 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta, T8V 0X8. As a family, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the outstanding care and compassion shown to Harry in his last days by Dr. Presley and the Beaverlodge Hospital nursing staff. Very Respectfully Beaverlodge Funeral Service
