Obituary of Mary Aitken Hermans

Mary Hermans, a long time resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 in Beaverlodge Alberta at the age of 68 years. Mary was born on December 29, 1945 in Beaverlodge, Alberta. She met her husband, John, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and was married in Beaverlodge on August 31, 1968. They lived in Hinton, where she started her family of Chelsea and Cory. She was active in Kinettes and her church. She continued to be active in Kinettes, church, and her children's school in Prince George and Fort St. John. After she moved to Beaverlodge she shared her skill and resources with the church, South Peace Centennial Museum, IODE, and the Library. In 2007 she was elected to the Beaverlodge Town Council and over the next 6 years she served as Chairman of the Beaverlodge Library, member of the Friends of the Library Board, member on the Peace Library System Board, Chair of the Finance Committee, member of the Subdivision and Development Board, the FCS Advisory Committee, the Revision and Assessment Review Board and the Communities in Bloom, as well as serving as Deputy Mayor during her terms on Council. She also served as a member of several fund raising committees, working with the County of Grande Prairie and the local MLA. She enjoyed meeting people and sharing her knowledge and ideas. She loved doing and was devoted to everything she did. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Rodolph William Harris and Margaret McKane Harris. Mary is survived by her husband John Hermans, daughter Chelsea (Allen) Larsen, grandchildren Nickolas and Audrey, her son Cory (Tanalea) Hermans, grandchildren Tianna, Braeden, Tiernan and Lochlan, brother Peter Harris, sisters Jean and Rosaline, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and an aunt. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Beaverlodge, Alberta. Reverend Wayne Putman officiated. Interment will be at a later date. She will be sadly missed by the many people and organizations she touched. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Mary to one of the following special places where she spent many enjoyable hours working with the people of - the Beaverlodge Health Complex, Box 30 Beaverlodge, AB T0H 0C0 or St. Luke's Anglican Church, Box 390 Beaverlodge, AB T0H 0C0 or to the South Peace Centennial Museum Association, Box 493 Beaverlodge, AB T0H 0C0.
