Verna Dolemo, a long time resident of Hythe, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Hythe, Alberta at the age of 95 years. With 95 years worth of love, respect, and admiration we sadly say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and sister. Verna was born December 10, 1918 in Cadillac, Saskatchewan. At the age of 20, she moved to Alberta with her parents Carl and Hannah Christopherson, where she met and later married Jesse Dolemo on February 1, 1940. They lived on the Dolemo family farm in the Valhalla area, renting and eventually buying the farm where they raised their family. It is here they resided until Jesse passed away in 1993. Verna then moved to Hythe living in the senior units, Hythe Pioneer Home and finally Hythe Continuing Care Center. Verna's life was dedicated to her family but she also worked many years as a cook and supervisor at the Hythe Pioneer Home. When she retired she found employment volunteering in the community at the Hythe Thrift Shop and working with the senior groups on quilts and rugs, and spent many hours crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Verna also enjoyued making special treats for family, and friends like Lefse, Krumkaka, and everyone's favorite, Norwegian Pancakes. Verna was predeceased by her parents Carl and Hannah Christopherson, her husband of 53 years Jesse Dolemo, her two sisters Ina and Edith, her seven brothers: Clarence, Arnold, Ben, Ken, Walter, Vernon, and Reubin, her two sons-in-law Bob and Lloyd, and daughter-in-law Blanche. Living forever in our hearts and memories, Verna leaves behind her five children: Carol Robertson, Donald Dolemo, Donna (Dale) Foss, Darlene Peterson, and Larry (Cheryl) Dolemo; her sixteen grandchildren: Ruby, Dale, Patty, Gloria, Darren, Glen, Trudy, Kelvin, Karen, Terry, Wanda, Tyler, Ashley, Tina, Crystal, and Colton; her thirty-three great grandchildren; her five great-great grandchildren, and her sisters-in-law Jean Christopherson, Corrine Christopherson, and Ivy Eastman. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Valhalla Lutheran Church. Pastor Ella Loberg officiated. Interment followed at the Valhalla Centre Cemetery.
