Obituary of James Maurice Third
James Maurice Third (Jim), lifetime resident of Goodfare, Alberta, passed away on Monday May 3, 2021 in Peace River at the age of 78 years. Jim was born on the family farm in Goodfare on May 19, 1942. He was the third child of Clayton and Annie Third. He and his wife Joyce, farmed in Goodfare although he was away most winters working. He got into oilfield construction working locally for Ray D’Aoust and then Don Pearson, before branching out on his own with Jim Third Contracting LTD in the 80’s. During these years he had sons-in-law, children, and grandchildren work for him. After Joyce’s passing in 2008 he bought some recreational land and built a cabin and a pond complete with his own island where he enjoyed hosting many friends and family get togethers. Jim loved to fish and go boating. He always enjoyed fishing trips to the coast with his friends and family, there were always good times had with Dick’s, Hommy’s, and Javorsky’s. In 2017 he received the 100 years of farming and ranching award from the County which he was very proud of. He always enjoyed when people would stop by for a visit and a coffee, and he always had a story to tell that would make you laugh. Jim will be sadly missed by his daughters; Cindy (Greg) Longson, Lori (Craig) Hewitt, Karen (Ken) Mitchell, brother; Jerry (Helen) Third, sister-in-law Betty Pederson, his grandsons; Jordan Longson, Cory (Jordan) Longson, Coleman (Codie) Mitchell, Taylor (Lisa) Mitchell, Colton and Ryan Hewitt, as well as nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Jim was predeceased by his wife; Joyce, son; Barry, parents; Annie and Clayton, infant brothers; Clifford and John, sister; Pat Sponchia, mother and father in laws; Jeanne and Art Weller and Tim Colman, sister and brother-in-law; Ferne and Artie Tollefsrud, brother-in-law Ken Pederson, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Due to covid restrictions there will be no service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Village of Hythe for the Cemetery Fund at Box 219, Hythe, AB T0H2C0 (a charitable receipt will be issued), or to the charity of one’s choice.
