Obituary of Boleslaw Makosiej

Boleslaw (Bob) Makosiej, resident of Hythe Alberta, passed away at the Hythe Continuing Care Center on April 10th, 2021 at the age of 94 years. Dad led a wonderfully long and full life which included joining the Polish Air Force during WW11, and the British Air Force. While posted in London, England, Dad met the love of his life, our beautiful late mother, Alice, and they were married in March 1954. In 1955, Dad joined the Canadian Armed Forces and Mom and Dad welcomed their first child, Robert, into the world. In 1957, Dad was posted to Trenton, Ontario. While in Trenton the family grew to include three daughters: Marysia, Christine, and Rose. Future postings took the family to Cold Lake, AB; Bagotville, QC; and Comox, B.C. where in 1977, Dad retired as a Master Warrant Officer from the Canadian Armed Forces. Mom and Dad loved Vancouver Island where they spent time gardening, relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful weather. They loved to take little vacations to Victoria, and visits to see their grown children, and grandchildren, in Kamloops, Chilliwack, and Nanaimo. Dad remained in Comox until 2013 when he moved to Baytree, AB to be loved and cared for by his daughters Marysia and Rose, and where he stayed until December 2018 when he moved in the Hythe Continuing Care Centre in Hythe, AB. During the next three years, residing in the Hythe Continuing Care Centre, Dad made new friends, and enjoyed recounting stories to the staff and nurses about the many places he either lived or visited during his military career, some placed most of us likely will not visit in our lifetime. The time he climbed the pyramids in Egypt; the bitter cold winters in Siberia; and the many times he stood guard for young Princess Elizabeth when she visited British Naval Officer Phillip Mountbatten in Malta, just to name a few. During a peaceful sleep after lunch on Saturday the 10th of April, 2021, Dad quietly passed away. He left behind his four children: Robert (Sandy) Makosiej of Nanaimo, B.C.; Marysia (Brian) Johnson of Baytree, AB; Christine (Ken) Berel of Lethbridge, AB; and Rose Makosiej of Baytree, AB; three grandchildren: Travis (Alicia) Makosiej; Melissa Pakulak and Miranda Makosiej, and four great grandchildren: Viktor and Melisandre, Braelyn and Owen, all in Nanaimo, B.C. Dad accepted a posting he just couldn’t refuse. A place where every day there are warm breezes, sunshine, and blue skies. There is music, and birds singing in the apple trees; puppies and kittens are running and playing, and there are rose gardens as far as the eye can see. There’s a never ending buffet table of fish and chips, cabbage rolls, perogies, wonton soup, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, cherries and plums. There are bowls of hot buttered popcorn, Orange Crush, and John Wayne movies playing whenever he wishes. The best benefit at this posting is that Mom is already there! Mom has been patiently awaiting his arrival these past sixteen years, together with Dad’s loving parents Mary and Jan, and surrounded by many friends he hasn’t seen for a very long time! Dear God, we thank you For giving us our Dad You must really love us You gave the best you had Watch over him and bless him, Lord Keep him in your care Let him feel our love for him With our humble prayer To the staff and nurses at Hythe Continuing Care Center, we thank you for all your support, kindness and care with Dad these past three years. Due to the current covid-19 situation, a private family service will be held later this year, and Dad will be laid to rest next to Mom, at Courtenay, B.C.
