Riley Matthew Mayer, a long time resident of Huallen, Alberta passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Airdrie, Alberta at the age of 25 years. Riley was born on June 24, 1988 in Beaverlodge, Alberta, the second child to Marcel and Kerry Mayer of Huallen, Alberta. He grew up and lived, until his death, on the family farm at Huallen. This was the same quarter of land on which is great grandfather, grandfather and father also lived. On July 12, 1988, Riley was given "the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit" in the waters of Baptism at St. John's Lutheran Church. On May 5, 2002, also at St. John's, he renewed his baptismal vows through the rite of confirmation. Riley received all of his formal schooling in Beaverlodge. He was a good student who achieved honors throughout most of his school years. During these years he enjoyed hobbies such as playing soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and learning tae-kwon-do with his brothers and dad. Riley was also an avid swimmer and could be found in the water long after everyone else had left. He tried a brief stint of playing football only to suffer on the first team game, a dislocated knee cap. Riley spent his grade school years picking eggs on the chicken farm and high school summers employed as a grounds keeper at Pipestone Golf Course and as a box-boy at Costco. Once he graduated high school he began working at Lynx Well Testing with his father, Marcel. On July 29, 2006 he married Corissa Peachey. Shortly thereafter, their first son Philip was born. Two years later they welcomed their second son Kolin, followed by Carson three years after that. Riley is survived by his wife Corissa Mayer and his three children; Philip, Kolin and Carson. He is also survived by his parents Marcel and Kerry Mayer, sister Leah (Jeremy) Johnston, brothers; Nathan (Dakota) and Gavin Mayer, and nephew Jasper Johnston. He will carry on our love to heaven eternally. A Visitation was held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 1:00-1:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Wembley/Huallen area. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Reverend Ken Eifert officiated. Riley's earthly remains were laid to rest in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, there to await the resurrection of all flesh.
