Joan Cornock

Obituary of Joan Louise Cornock

Joan Louise Cornock

September 23, 1928 – July 8, 2024

Joan Louise Cornock, resident of Beaverlodge, AB, formerly of Tupper, BC, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Beaverlodge Hospital at the age of 95 years.

Joan was born in Dodsland, SK, on September 23, 1928. She grew up on the farm in Vanderhoof, BC. She became a teacher after graduating from the Provincial Normal School in Victoria, BC. She then took a position in Dawson Creek, BC, and later in Toms Lake, BC, where she met Bruce Cornock from Tupper, BC. Bruce and Joan married on July 16, 1950. After that, they moved to the border between British Columbia and Alberta, where they opened up a gas station, and the front of the house became a café. By this time the children kept arriving, so instead of full-time teaching she became a substitute teacher. She was active in the Anglican Church and organizations in Tupper; always volunteering and helping wherever needed. Later when Bruce got busy with his pilot car service, Joan worked alongside him as a second driver, as sometimes they needed one to lead and one to follow. She loved that job and did it until she retired at the age of 75 years. After moving to Beaverlodge, besides church, she joined the Seniors Club which sparked her newfound passion for floor curling and allowed her to make many new friends.

Joan was an excellent cook, seamstress, and gardener. She also loved puzzles and crosswords. She was honest, had a big heart, with a great sense of humour, and a lot of pride.

Joan is survived by her children: Dennis, David, Janet Bisbing, Raymond, Dale Humphreys, Lance, Lorraine (Leon) Bandet, and Steve; grandchildren: Tanya Bisbing (Ashley), Shane Bisbing (Amber), Scott (Christie) Humphreys, Ian Humphreys, Tamara (Grant) Rush, Jacklyn (Cory) Fries; great-grandchildren: Tyler Bisbing (Jamie), Jesse Carleton, Hannah Bisbing, Cameron Bisbing, Dominic Bisbing, Karter Humphreys, Landon Humphreys, Dawson Humphreys, Daphne Fries; brother-in-law Charlie (Myrtle) Cornock; sister-in-law Ruth Cornock and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Bruce Cornock; mother Janet Hogarth; father Fred Hogarth; siblings: Bruce Hogarth (who died in infancy), Dave Hogarth, Don Hogarth, Ruth Hogarth, and Linda Lomas; son-in-law Harry Bisbing; sister-in-law Hannah Hogarth; brother-in-law Lyle Lomas; sister-in-law Bertha Watmough; and brothers-in-law: Maurice Cornock and Archie Cornock.
