Obituary of Eileen Funk
Eileen Elizabeth Funk, a lifelong resident of Lymburn, AB, recently of Hythe, AB, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Beaverlodge Hospital, at the age of 92 years. She was fondly known as “Granny” to many.
Eileen was born on July 22, 1931, to Cliff and Mable Burbee at the Grande Prairie Hospital. She attended several schools in the local community before attending Hythe Public. She married her lifelong partner, Henry, on October 25, 1949, and together they raised five children on the family farm.
Eileen was a lifelong member of the Lymburn Community Association, a board member for the Hythe Agricultural Fair, and volunteered at the Hythe Thrift Store, Food Bank, and the Tourist Information Cabin, sharing her knowledge of local history. She was a steadfast supporter and fan of the Lymburn Aces fastball team and of the local minor hockey teams where her grandchildren and great-grandchildren played.
Eileen will be sadly missed by her children: Darcy (Brenda) Funk, Mabel Sudnik, George (Marilyn) Funk, Darlene (Kelly) Stilwell, and Dorothy (Lorne) Flaten; thirteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren; her sister Connie (Sidney) Hucul; brother Herb (Carol) Burbee; sister-in-law Marguerite Burbee; and brothers-in-law: Pete (Frieda) Funk and Abe Dueck.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1985, infant son William in 1957, granddaughter Jessica Funk, great-granddaughters Ashtin Funk and Jaidyn Funk, her mother Mable in 1936, father and stepmother Cliff and Carrie Burbee, son-in-law Eugene Sudnik, brothers Ben, Don, and Chum Burbee, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Agnes (Al) Johnson, George (Margie) Funk, John (Helen) Funk, and Betty Dueck.

A private family celebration of Eileen’s life will be held with interment at Salem Mennonite Cemetery.
