Obituary of Herta Briese

It is with great sadness that we announce Herta Pauline Briese, resident of Hythe, AB, formerly of Elmworth, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 91 years.

Herta was born July 5, 1932, south of Huallen, AB to Emil and Wilhelmina Schultz. Herta was one of eight children born and raised on the family farm. 

At the age of 18 Herta married her first husband Albert Tews.  They had two children Joyce and David and resided in Edmonton until Albert’s passing. Then Herta and her two young children moved to Grande Prairie, AB. They lived next door to her parents until she married Herman Briese in 1966. They resided in Elmworth where she lived happily as a farmer’s wife and mother of their two girls Anita and Cindy until retirement.  In 2018, they moved to Amisk Court in Beaverlodge, and then in 2022, she moved to Pearson Place in Hythe.

Herta was known for her love of gardening, very delicious cooking, baked bread, and canning. Everyone looked forward to a home cooked meal at Grandma’s house. The family was everything to her.

She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Herman Briese of 57 years; children: Joyce McBean, David Tews, Anita Briese, and Cindy (Darren) Lock; grandchildren: Lisa McBean, Peter (Melanie) McBean, Dayton (Kaeli) Lock, Taylor Lock, Zackary (Victoria) Lock, and Alyssa Demchuk; great-grandchildren: Piper and Zoey McBean, and Jaden Lock; sister: Olga Breitkreutz; as well as in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Herta was predeceased by her parents; 1 sister Bertha; 5 brothers: William, Reinold, Gottlieb, Adolph, and Edward; first husband Albert, son-in-law Al McBean, and in-laws.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wembley (90079 - Township Road #712).  Interment and luncheon to follow the service.
