William “Bill” Henry Mackie, resident of Goodfare, AB, formerly of Guelph, ON, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Beaverlodge Hospital, at the age of 69 years.

Bill was born October 5, 1954, in Guelph, ON, to parents Lorne and Margaret Mackie. The family moved to Goodfare when he was a young boy, where he was raised on a farm with his seven siblings. Being the fourth child, Bill had to learn resilience, hard work, determination, and grit.

Bill attended school in Beaverlodge and then spent years working seismic, drilling rigs, water hauling, logging, and trapping. Bill bought a farm across the highway from his brother Les, where the two of them farmed the land together for years.

He was a hardworking, stubborn man, who had that lovely Mackie temper (especially with the cattle), and who had a heart of gold.

Bill successfully raised four kids and enjoyed spending his free time volunteering at the Beaverlodge Museum, helping neighbours, and quadding with his kids and grandkids. He built his dream home with the help of his kids, friends, and family, and he finally got to shoot his first muley buck!

Bill will be sadly missed by his children: Megan (Cody) Reay, Morgan Mackie (Kaylee Carpenter), Jenna (Dustin) Reay, Kristen (Travis) Carson, and Darren (Kyra) Dame; grandchildren: Destiny, Brody, Liam, Nakita, Shamus, Ayla, Kinslee, Paige, Austin, Lucas, Hailey, and Josh; aunt Florence, Harvey (Elma) Mackie, Linda (Gordon) Fletcher, Sharon Albright, Betty (Doug) Waugh, Les (Mimi) Mackie, Jim (Kaori) Mackie, and Kathy (Bryce) Boehmer; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Lorne & Mary Anna “Margaret” Mackie, and nephew David Fletcher.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Goodfare Hall (120081 Highway 671). Interment to follow at Gimli Cemetery for immediate family only.
