Obituary of Elva Carlstrom
Elva Carlstrom, resident of Hythe, AB, formerly of Bear Canyon, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Pearson Place in Hythe, AB, at the age of 91 years.
Elva was born in La Glace, AB, on January 29, 1932, to Andrew and Esther Hoflin. She was the second oldest and was raised on the family farm, along with her five siblings. She married Herb in July 1954, before moving to Grande Prairie, AB, and eventually homesteading in Bear Canyon in 1962. Elva was a pioneer wife who worked alongside Herb to raise their family on the farm.
Herb and Elva retired to Hythe in 1990. They lived in their own home until 2010, when they moved to the Hythe Pioneer Home due to Herb’s failing health. After Herb’s passing in 2015, Elva remained at the Pioneer Home until 2021, before moving into Pearson Place in May of 2022.
Elva is predeceased by her husband Herb, parents Andrew and Esther, infant brother Leonard, brother Donnie, sisters Grace and Audrey, and brothers-in-law Elmer Rude, Stanley Carlstad, and Jim Anderson.
Elva is survived by her son Neil (Donna), and their children: Megan (Jason Green), Chad (Britney), and Erin; son Rod (Dennise), and their children: Ryan (Jen), and Kyle (Nick); son Lyle (Pam Williams), and his children: Emily, Joshua, and Zachary; daughter Carol Hogg (Sid), and their children: Riley, Heather (Erich Winges); 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters Ethel Rude of Medicine Hat, Ruth Carlstad of Bear Canyon; brother-in-law Bill Sawarin of Pentiction; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who assisted with Elva’s care the past several years.
A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Hythe Royal Canadian Legion, Pauline Haycock to officiate. Private family Inurnment to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hythe Golden Age Center (10112, 100 St., Hythe, AB, T0H 2C0) where Herb and Elva spent many hours in their retirement.
