Jean Isabel Gladue, resident of Kelly Lake, BC, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 82 years.

Jean was born August 21, 1941, in Kelly Lake to parents Lective and Caroline Campbell.

Jean attended school in Kelly Lake, she then worked for the Kelly Lake School as a cultural teacher as well as a substitute teacher. Later in life, she worked at the Quintette Coal Mines in Tumbler Ridge, BC, for 17 years until the mine shut down. Jean has always maintained her indigenous way of life such as hide tanning, dry meat making, hunting, and trapping. She also loved raising chickens.

She was hardworking, stubborn, plucky, generous, and brave. During her hunting and picking berries days, she was chased a few times by Grizzly bears, but that did not stop her from doing what she loved.

Jean loved to raise chickens, tan moose hides, sewing moccasins, and gardening.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Cindy Grey, Charlotte Kozakevich, Kevin Gladue, Charlene Dunn, Dennis Campbell, and Craig Gladue; grandchildren: Iskotew, Chelsea, Jared, Chantelle, Ashlee, Andrea, Lective, Keshia, Keely, Dane, Seth, and Quinn; great-grandchildren: Chase, Maddison, Dante, Seven, Jada, Jaylee, Aleah, Kaleigh, Taylor, Ava, Kylie, Kaden, Jaxon, Payton, Mackenna, and Isobel; great-great-grandchildren: Ashton and Charlotte.

Jean was predeceased by her parents Lective and Caroline Campbell, son Floyd Gladue, brother Dennis Campbell, sister Shirley Letendre, and husband Lloyd Gladue.

A Viewing will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Beaverlodge, AB (1107 1 Ave). A Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by Interment at Gimli Cemetery.
