Obituary of Ron Schweitzer

Ronald Edward Schweitzer, resident of Goodfare, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital, at the age of 68 years.

Ron was born in Hythe, AB on October 18, 1954, to Martha Lydia Schweitzer (nee Mayer) and Edward Frank Schweitzer. Ron was the third of five children. Ron grew up in Goodfare and attended school in Beaverlodge, AB.

From a young age, Ron showed an interest in carpentry and farming. As a small child, when his parent’s home was being built, Ron could often be found following the carpenter, handing him tools, and trying to help. In his late teenage years, Ron started working as a carpentry apprentice. Ron spent most of his life living on the farm in Goodfare, both farming and working in carpentry.

On September 26, 1986, Ron married Joanne Freda Schweitzer (nee VanderHaak). Together they welcomed three children: Amber, Eddie, and Travis. Ron spent many years with his own business building homes, shops, and other assorted buildings. He always dreamed of eventually farming full-time. In the summer of 1999, Ron’s life was forever changed in an accident that left him paralyzed.

Throughout the years, Ron could be counted on for his daily visits to town where he would drink coffee and socialize with family and friends at the local restaurants. Ron loved attending auctions of every kind, and, in his later years could often still be found watching auction sales online from home. Ron also had a love for collecting coins. He spent much of his time looking for new coins to add to his collection and cleaning and organizing the coins he had already collected.

Ron will be sadly missed by his mother Martha Schweitzer; his wife Joanne Schweitzer (VanderHaak); children: Amber (Jordan) Tremblay, Edward (Morgan) Schweitzer, and Travis (Jada) Schweitzer; grandchildren: Ethan Tremblay, Reagan Tremblay, Evan Tremblay, Hayden Schweitzer, Tj Schweitzer, and Frankie Schweitzer; siblings: Dorothy (John) Lieverse, Koreen (Hank) Deheus, Jackie and Christopher Werkema, Albert Schweitzer; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Ron was predeceased by his father Edward Frank Schweitzer and his brother David John Schweitzer.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Goodfare Community Hall on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 1:00 pm with a Graveside Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Goodfare. A luncheon will follow at the Goodfare Community Hall.
