Obituary of Marilyn Adele Levitt

Marilyn Adele Levitt (Neighbour), resident of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital with family by her side at the age of 77.

Marilyn was born on October 9, 1946 in Oyen, AB. The family then moved to Rio Grande, AB, followed by the move to Elmworth, AB. She graduated from the Hythe High School in 1965. She received her interim Standard Teaching Certificate from the University of Alberta. She then taught at the Hythe High School for one year, before attending the University of Calgary and attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1970.

She worked as a supply teacher in Calgary AB, and Okotoks, AB, then at the Colonel Walker School in Calgary. She then moved to Victoria, BC. After attaining her BC Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate she began teaching at St. Michaels University School in 1978 where she would work until her retirement in 2006.

She spent her first retirement years in Tumbler Ridge, BC, working part-time for Canada Post, then made the move back to Beaverlodge in 2010 where she resided until her passing.

Marilyn had a passion for teaching, inspiring every student to strive to be their best. In her retirement, she invested her time in maintaining a beautiful home and yard.

Left to mourn her passing are her brothers: Darryl, Ken (Heather), Dale (Shirley), Rick (Wanda), Barry (Janice), and Gary (Richelle); her sisters Karen (Ron), Brenda, Linda, Cheryl, Darla (Pat); and sister-in-law Lynn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Omar and Frances Neighbour, sister Faye (Rudy) Wagner, and brother Clifford.

As per her wishes, an interment will take place at the Elmworth cemetery in the Summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Society or the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
