With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Corrine Schmidt. She passed peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, surrounded by her children and husband after living with cancer for the last 3 years.

Corrine was born November 17, 1962, in Manning, Alberta, to Roy and Aili Ek, where she was the second youngest of eight children. She was raised on the family farm in Deadwood, Alberta. She enjoyed being outside helping with the many chores rather than inside in the kitchen. Corrine met Dave Schmidt at a local Deadwood Hall dance in 1978. They married on August 30, 1980. Dave and Corrine moved to Grande Prairie, then to Beaverlodge in 1983. They then settled on a farm in the Halcourt area in 1985.

Corrine was a loving and devoted mother. Her first daughter, Charity, was born in 1983, her second daughter, Sara, was born in 1984, and her twin boys, Wayne and Byron, were born in 1990.

Corrine was an active volunteer in her children’s schools and their many after-school activities. She was also a member and later president of the Halcourt Ladies' Club, which held various events, including Christmas concerts held in the old Halcourt school. The Red Willow Boys and Girls Camp was another organization she was part of throughout the years, including directing several different summer kids’ camps.

She enjoyed family events, including family gatherings, picnics, camping, and sports events. In later years, Corrine enjoyed spending time with the grandkids with sleepovers, camping trips, crafts, reading with them, school events, and time in the garden.

Corrine enjoyed spending time working with flowers and being outside. She also enjoyed travelling with Dave and her family. They have taken many trips around Canada, in North America, and overseas.

Corrine will be sadly missed by her husband Dave; her children Charity Rideout (Jeff), Sara Isaac (Darren), Wayne Schmidt (Robyn), and Byron Schmidt (Majesta); her grandchildren Garrett, Emmett, Owen, Colton, and Cleo; her siblings Ellen Fiddler (Art), Marilyn Martin, Cindy Kulyna (Barry), Pat Ek, and Maxine Goddard (Les). She was predeceased by her parents, sister Darlene Newell, sister Ann Ek, brother-in-law Gary Newell, and brother-in-law Gordy Martin.

Her wishes were that she was to be cremated and her ashes spread in special places on the Halcourt farm where she lived.

An Afternoon of Remembering will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 27, 2026, at the Red Willow Boys and Girls Camp (704002, Range Road 105) in Beaverlodge. To honour her memory. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories.
