Katherine Veldhuis, a resident of Hythe, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Hythe Continuing Care Centre at the age of 96.

Katherine was born in Fairholm, SK, on September 23, 1929, to her parents, Isaac and Elizabeth Peters. She was the second-oldest child.

At a very young age, the family relocated to Lymburn, AB, where Katherine attended school. She began working in the Grande Prairie area at a young age and later went on to start a family. Katherine then devoted herself to raising her family of 12.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a hardworking woman who took great pride in being neat and tidy, especially in her personal care. Katherine enjoyed painting, tending to her garden, cooking, and baking, and was a talented sewer and knitter.

She will be sadly missed by all her children: Jack (Rose), Stan (Chris), Donna (John), Les (Lynda), Norma (Glen), Gordie (Maggie), Dennis, Cathy, Bev (Art), Bonnie (Bill), and Randy (Sherri); her siblings: Susie Bartsch, Mary Penner, Margaret Penner, and Eva St. Onje; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Katherine was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Webb, and her second husband, Bud Veldhuis; her daughter, Brenda Link; her son-in-law, Bill Cloutier and Ron Link; her grandson, Jesse Brisebois; her sisters, Agnes, Helena, and Betty; her brothers, Jake, Sam, and David Peters; brothers-in-law John Bartsch and Armand St. Onje; daughter- in-law Lori Webb;

as well as her in-laws, Norman Kenrick, Dave Penner, Albert Kistner, and Jim Wood.

A graveside service for Katherine will be held on April 27 at 12:00 p.m. at Hythe Cemetery (110045 AB-672), Hythe, AB. A memorial service will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion (9818 100 Ave) in Hythe, with a luncheon to follow.
