Richard Joshua Young, resident of Beaverlodge, AB, formerly of Grande Centre, AB, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Beaverlodge at the age of 75 years.

Richard was born on October 4, 1949, in Bonnyville, AB, the second of four children to Joshua and Faye Young. He grew up on the family farm near Crane Lake before moving to the nearby town of Grande Centre. Richard graduated from Grande Centre High School in 1968 and spent a year working on the pipeline before beginning studies at the University of Alberta.

Following a serious accident that left him with a broken wrist, leg, and ankle, Richard returned to Grande Centre. There, he took on a variety of jobs until he found his place in the oilfield industry, a career he would dedicate himself to for the rest of his working life. Over the years, Richard earned the respect of many colleagues and formed countless lasting friendships.

In 1972, Richard married the love of his life, Noreen. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. They were blessed with four children and, eventually, ten cherished grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.

Passionate about his family, especially his ten grandchildren, Richard found his greatest joy in the time he spent with them. He was a principled, fair, and hard-working man, known for his strong values, steady nature, and the love he carried for those closest to him.

In his free time, Richard loved being outdoors. Whether it was camping, hunting, boating, fishing, quadding, or enjoying a simple wiener roast, he felt most at home in nature. He also enjoyed watching sports, always taking time to cheer on his favorite teams.

He will be sadly missed by his children, daughters Carlotta Guise (Darcy) and Nichole; sons Brian (Reagan), Adam (Jennifer); his grandchildren Andrew, Layton, Emma, Nathan, Abby, Jakob, Alex, Avery, Chloe, and Shelby; sister Jocelyn Paul; as well as his uncle Harland Roth.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Noreen. His sister Barbara Young, brother Brian Young, and parents Joshua and Faye Young.

A celebration of life for Richard will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Hythe Legion (9818 100 Ave.) in Hythe, AB
