It is with shattered hearts that we, the family of Kathy Howatt, announce her passing peacefully at home at the age of 72.
Kathy was born on March 12, 1953, in Beaverlodge, AB, to Charles and Anne Young. She lived life to the fullest, known for her sharp wit and her ability to find humor in every situation. Her laughter and quick comebacks brought joy to everyone around her.
Kathy's favorite moments were spent with family down at the farm, surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors. She had a love for fishing, hunting, and camping. Music was another passion of hers, and her love for card games was legendary, especially when she would win against her brother-in-law, Dale (and perhaps teach everyone a few new words in the process).
Kathy adored her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. Kathy also had a deep compassion for others and dedicated her time to helping those in need. She volunteered for many years with Victims Assistance, offering support to individuals during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Her empathy, strength, and calming presence made a lasting impact on many.
Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Daniel Howatt; her sons, Jody Howatt, Jason (Sheila) Howatt; and her grandchildren, Jayden Howatt, Daylin Howatt, and Emily Sylvester. She also leaves behind her sister Shirley (Dale) Neighbour, sisters-in-law Verna Hornby, Laura Nagel, and Ivy (Dave) Bartsch; brothers-in-law Blair (Chris) Howatt and Randall Howatt; numerous nieces and nephews, and her lifelong best friend Sharon Popesco.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Anne Young.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Kathy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, humor, and the love she gave so freely.
