Walter John Lowen Obituary

Walter John Lowen of Beaverlodge, Alberta, passed away on July 16, 2025, in Beaverlodge at the age of 70 years. Walter was born on December 31, 1954, in Hythe to Henry and Marie Lowen. Walter grew up on the farm in Lymburn, Alberta, the second of five children. His childhood was filled with family, friends, and having fun together. He also loved horseback riding and fishing. Walter was known to get into some mischief with his cousins.

With high school complete, Walter went to work with his dad on the farm in the summer, drove a Cat and logged in the winter. In November of 1982, Walter met Milly, his future wife, while square dancing. This led to their marriage in 1984 and their two children, Terry and Justina.

Walter’s greatest joy was his family, especially when the grandchildren started coming. They all love their Papa!

Walter bought the farm and made it his life’s work. Lymburn was his home; he lived his whole life there and raised his family only half a mile from where he grew up. A dedicated community member, he was there to help whenever asked.

After retirement, Walter and Milly spent many summers at One Island Lake, kicking back, fishing, and in typical fashion, helping run the campground. He also loved traveling to tropical locations in the winters. Walter and Milly enjoyed the last three years living in Beaverlodge, making many new friends. Walter also enjoyed his coffee buddies at A&W.

Walter will be sadly missed by his mother Marie Lowen, his wife Milly Lowen, his children Terry (Shannon) Lowen, Justina (Craig) Pudwell, his grandchildren Alexis, Aaron and Alaina Lowen, Kara Tighe, Collin, Christopher and Mackenzie Pudwell, his siblings Frieda (Harold) Bratland, Hilda (Lin) Harder, Loretta (Bob) Sherard and Roger (Tammy) Lowen, mother-in-law Leona Farnsworth, sister-in-law Debby (Tim) Whitfield, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his father Henry Lowen, father-in-law Gordon Farnsworth, brother-in-law Curtis Farnsworth and grandchild Grace Lowen.

Walter’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Lymburn Community Hall (124004 TWP RD 734 Lymburn, AB).
