It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) George Miles, a long-time resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta. Bill passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at the age of 78, after a courageous and lengthy 15-year battle with prostate cancer.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on March 29, 1947, to the late Walter Phillip and Vera (Werenka) Miles, Bill remained a proud Nova Scotian at heart throughout his life. His journey eventually led him west, where he worked for the Dillman family in Williams Lake, B.C., before finding his community in Beaverlodge in the early 90's.

Bill began a new chapter as a dedicated employee at the Beaverlodge Motor Inn and Beaverlodge IGA. For nearly 30 years, he was a familiar and reliable presence at the BMI and IGA, known for being chatty and for his good-natured teasing, which brought smiles to both colleagues and customers.

Though known to be a private bachelor, Bill enjoyed having a smoke, a beer, and Aero chocolate bars were his simple pleasures in life. He was also a closet fan of WWE wrestling and a devoted supporter of the Calgary Flames—a passion for which his friends lovingly gave him a hard time.

Bill is survived by his brother Phillip and sister Pauline.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Vera; brother Robert; and sisters Elizabeth and Sophie Ann.

He will be fondly remembered by his many friends, his work family at the IGA, coworkers from the BMI, and the community he served for so many years. 

His resilience, quiet strength, and unique sense of humor will be deeply missed.
