Douglas Richard Gingles, longtime resident of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Beaverlodge Hospital at the age of 74.
Douglas was born on October 17, 1950, and lived in the Beaverlodge area his whole life. He grew up on a farm in Halcourt with five brothers and one sister. A piece of his heart will forever be left “on the farm”.
Douglas was a strong, proud, and resilient man who faced extreme challenges and attacked difficulty head-on from birth. He didn’t give up and kept a positive attitude the whole way.
Douglas spent time helping his brother Johnny at the Pool Hall where he made a number of lifelong friends. In the summer months over the years, Douglas spent time at numerous Bible camps either as a participant or a helper; again, making many friends along the way. During the winter months, you would find Douglas at either the Hythe Arena or Beaverlodge Arena refereeing, helping to clean the ice, or just cheering on his favorite team.
He is widely remembered for his years of playing crib with anyone that was willing to take him on. This was a game he was very good at, and he really hated to lose.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Joe (Marianne) and sister Mary. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his mother Grace Gingles Kozan; father Hugh Gingles; stepfather Andrew Kozan; brothers Robert Gingles, Tom Gingles, Johnny Gingles, and Jim Gingles; sisters-in-law Marna Gingles and Jo Gingles; brother-in-law Fred Hennigar; stepsister Teresa Khorhonen; and nieces, Cindy McNeil and Lisa Hennigar.
A Memorial Service for Douglas will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at the Beaverlodge Alliance Church (409 10th St.).
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (www.cancer.ca)
